The Grove Manufacturing Company was founded in 1947 and is one of the world’s leading producers of mobile hydraulic telescope cranes. In 2002 Grove was acquired by the Manitowoc Company. Other brands manufactured by Manitowoc include Manitowoc crawler cranes, National cranes (articulating truck-mounted cranes) and Potain tower cranes. Coles Cranes Ltd was founded in London in 1879 by Henry James Cole. The company then changed hands and moved several times over in its 100 year history. In 1984 they were taken over by Grove. Coles produced many very successful crane models. Grove took over model range Hydra Husky and adapted some of Coles’ structural design in their rough. The Coles 315M al-terrain crane entered service with the British Army in 1982 following an international tender. At the time Coles Cranes was the Europe's largest crane manufacturer. This machine is also referred as Grove 315M (as the Coles Cranes were taken over by Grove in 1984).
